
TWO BARS is founded and authored by Tay Eu-Yen, practising lawyer and experienced entrepreneur. She started this blog as a passion project, hoping to make laws affecting F&B more accessible to business owners.
LAW PRACTICE
Eu-Yen is a practising member of the Singapore Bar. She advises businesses on commercial transactions such as early-stage investing, joint ventures, and franchises. She also advises on regulatory frameworks affecting public entertainment, food safety, music copyright, and remote gambling.
ENTERPRISE
Eu-Yen spent 15 years in the nightlife and F&B industries. She co-founded The Butter Factory Group, well-known for its iconic nightclub, The Butter Factory. She spent 10 years as executive chairman and general legal counsel expanding its business into bars, restaurants, events management, DJ management, a nightclub franchise and an internationally acclaimed short film production. Later on, she co-founded Coterie Concepts, an F&B group popularised by its flagship bar Sum Yi Tai. She spent 5 years as executive chairman and general legal counsel developing another 3 concepts and a social media arm.
ACADEMICS
Eu-Yen holds a Masters of Studies in Legal Research (with Distinction) from the University of Oxford (UK) and a Bachelors of Law from the University of Bristol (UK). Her academic work on various topics of law and enterprise can be found here. She has also written a book titled “Business Law for the Night Entertainment Entrepreneur”, published by Thomas Reuters’ Sweet & Maxwell.
